Prominent local business figure Gene Tilbrook has been appointed deputy chairman of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Mr Tilbrook was formerly president of the AICD’s Western Australian division, succeeding former iiNet chairman Michael Smith in 2013.
He is a non-executive director of Woodside Petroleum, Orica and GPT Group, and is also a director of Bell Shakespeare Company and a councillor of Curtin University.
He was also previously a director of Aurizon and finance director for Wesfarmers.
“Gene is a long-standing member of the AICD who has served on our national board since July 2013,” AICD chairman Elizabeth Proust said.
“His background as a senior director in both the listed and not-for-profit sectors makes him an ideal candidate to represent the board interests of our 38,000 members.”
Mr Tilbrook said he was honoured to have been appointed deputy chair of the AICD.
“Boards play a critical role in many aspects of Australian society and it is our goal to ensure that their contribution is significant,” he said.
