* DOME Coffees director and winner of the 2000 WA and Australian Business Woman of the Year Award Patria Jafferies (pictured) and Subiaco Hotel executive chef Ivan Mather (winner of the 1999 and 2000 Best Restaurant Hotel in Australia) will speak at the Superbusiness function on November 22. Ms Jafferies and Mr Mather will discuss the success of their companies and provide insights for people in business and emerging entrepreneurs. * WA-based Andrew Horabin has been named the 2000 National Songwriter of the Year at the recent Australian Songwriters’ Association Awards. Mr Horabin also won five placings in three categories: Coffee House (folk, unplugged, acoustic music), Wacky Trax (humorous material) and Lyrics Only. His songs are from a musical film he has written called “What A Man’s Gotta Do”. Mr Horabin’s company Ovations Edu-tainment is releasing a CD later this year to attract interest in the
project.
* DALKEITH’S Ida Lloyd has been named the 2000 WA Senior of the Year. Mrs Llloyd, an 85-year old, was recognised for more than 40 years service as a community service worker helping the Association for the Blind.
* THE WA Naturalists Club has been presented with a Lotteries Commission cheque for $72,000. The money will be used to analyse the health of two bushland reserves in the south-west corner of WA. Environment Minister Cheryl Edwardes said the Lotteries Commission last year returned $129 million to the community.
* WELL known (and well worn) members of the local IT industry are holding a live band event at the Grosvenor Hotel Back Bar on December 1 from 6pm until 2am. Bands featured include 1016 & Falling, Cadillacs and Ramjets. This is a non-profit event and there will be no door sales.
* WITCHES, fairies and goblins will converge on Perth CBD on December 1 when Princess Margaret Hospital for Children Foundation holds its annual Dollar Dress Day. Funds raised through gold coin donations will help 650 newborn babies who receive treatment in the Hospital’s Neonatal Unit. Perth businesses taking part include ANZ Bank, Hartley Poynton, the Australian Stock Exchange and D’Angelo and Partners.
* A NEW Police Post has been opened in Garden City’s piazza adjacent to the Aherns entrance and opposite the bus station. The new facility came to fruition through ther cooperation of the owners of Garden City, AMP Shopping Centres Trust and AMP’s statutory fund No.2.
* PERTH’S most popular outdoor cinema experience, Sunset Cinema, returns for its third season this summer at the picturesque lakeside picnic area in Kings Park. The four-month season will feature a range of classic, cult, art-house, blockbuster, family and new release films. Season highlights include Buena Vista Social Club, Gladiator, High Fidelity, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?, A Clockwork Orange, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Chopper, American Beauty and Looking for Alibrandi. * COURTYARD music at The Fremantle Arts Centre will feature Steve Tallis, a renowned Perth musician who has supported the likes of Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Mick Jagger, on November 19. Bluesgrass Parkway, described as “the best bluesgrass band in the country”, will play on November 26.
