Strong support for RSPCA role

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been working to improve animal welfare practices in Western Australia since 1892.

It was one of four organisations to receive a £50 grant from the state lottery 80 years ago.

For more than 120 years the RSPCA has played a major community role due to the ongoing demand for its services as well as the continued efforts of its volunteers.

Since 1988, the RSPCA has received 19 grants from Lotterywest collectively worth more than $2.17 million.

Most recently, Lotterywest provided funding for animal shelter veterinary clinic equipment, two inspectors' vehicles, air-conditioning units and laptops, having previously assisted the RSPCA establish its Animal Welfare Centre in Malaga.

The RSPCA also receives financial support from the government, membership fees and fundraising events such as the Million Paws Walk, which raised more than $72,000 in WA this year.
