St John of God Health Care has announced Western Australia's largest ever private health sector investment, with a $234 million expansion of facilities at its hospital in Murdoch.

The expansion will increase capacity from 357 to 522 beds, which would cater for an additional 25,000 patients each year.

St John of God Health Care group chief executive Michael Stanford said plans were in place to invest $300 million, including the Murdoch redevelopment, over the next five years.

"As Western Australia's largest private health provider, we are entirely focused on improving and expanding services to benefit the health of the community," Dr Stanford said.

"This, our largest ever redevelopment, is a prime example of how we continually reinvest in our hospitals, facilities and communities."

St John of God Hospital chief executive Peter Mott, said around 200 jobs would be created in the first stage of the redevelopment.

Building will begin early next year, with new services coming online from 2013 to 2015.
