• BUNBURY’S Back Beach is to undergo a $7.5 million taxpayer funded work program to address the issue of erosion. Premier Richard Court and local member Ian Osborne made the announcement during a recent visit to the South West.
“After a decade of research and studies, we believe the people of Bunbury are keen for the project to proceed as quickly as possible,” Mr Osborne said.
• THE South West Development Commission, in conjunction with the South West Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the WA Reconciliation Advisory Group and the WA Depart-ment of Training and Employment are working to improve Aboriginal employment prospects.
Gerry Moody has been appointed as the new Aboriginal Employment Development Officer.
• AUSTRADE is coming to Bunbury to help South West exporters deal with electronic commerce. The E-Commerce for Exporters workshop has been designed for decision makers such as CEOs, general managers and marketing managers.
Questions answered in the workshop include how to implement tools such as email, the Internet including intranets and extranets, web pages, on-line catalogues and online ordering.
The workshop will be held in Bunbury on 13 March from 6:30pm to 10:00pm in the Bunbury Tower.
• The Leschenault Business Enterprise Centre and the industry development advisor at the SWDC have organised a workshop on human resource management on 29 February from 6:30pm to 10:00pm in the Bunbury Tower. Material prepared by People Management’s Allan McGilli-vray will be used in the workshop.
• SYSTEMS Intellect’s Stewart Key will speak to South West businesses on using a professional consultant to prepare a business plan at a breakfast on 1 March from 7:30am to 8:45am in the Bunbury Tower. The WA Government will pay small businesses up to $5,000 to subsidise 65 per cent of the cost of having a consultant prepare a business plan.
• AUSSIEHOST, a nationally accredited customer service training program, will be held in the Bunbury Tower on 14 March, 3 April and 2 May. The one day certificate course, organised by the LBEC and the SWDC, is designed to assist those staff who are the faces of the business.
