Sound support for WA's live music scene

Live music venues will be eligible for funding to address problems caused by excessive sound levels in a move that will assist Western Australia's thriving music industry.
Culture and Arts Minister Sheila McHale announced $250,000 in funding to be spent on noise related issues, which would help ensure that venues could continue to support live music acts.
The initiative, called the Sound Attenuation Support Program (SASP), would provide dollar-for-dollar funding of up to $50,000 per project.
The Minister said that the success of WA's music industry is widely acclaimed with bands such as Eskimo Joe experiencing unprecedented international success.
The initiative will support venues that have a history of supporting live contemporary music deal with sound issues.
"Funding will be offered to upgrade sound equipment, purchase sound reduction equipment such as limiters and acoustic panels or prepare sound management plans," the Minister said.
"This will help create a balance between securing opportunities for live music, while ensuring a pleasant environment for people who live and work near music venues."
The SASP is part of the state government's $5 million commitment to developing WA's contemporary music sector.
