WINE Industry Association CEO Tamara Stevens has been nominated for Business News’ 40 Under 40 program.

Ms Stevens was nominated by association president Denis Horgan for the impact she had on the organisation in the 19 months she had been with it.

She was also nominated by the Wine Industry Association itself and has many staunch supporters within the industry.

“In doing this, she has demonstrated a great deal of drive, creativity and energy along with a maturity well beyond her age,” Mr Horgan said.

Some of Ms Stevens’ feats include forcing the industry to concentrate on the local market and concentrating on consumer education.

She was instrumental in launching a campaign promoting WA wines into Singapore and setting up a wine education centre there.

Ms Stevens also played a part in a wine industry trade show in London this year, and she had a vital role in getting the WA wine industry to focus on its local markets.

Clairault Wines’ Caroline Zoccoli said Ms Stevens had injected a lot of youthfulness into the industry.

“She’s made the industry realise that wine is about lifestyle, enjoyment and fun, rather than the hard sell,” Ms Zoccoli said. “She’s helped put WA wines on the map. Tamara’s been very proactive. There haven’t been too many people in the industry that have shaken it up like she has.

“I think she is changing the way people look at WA wines. She’s a huge asset to the industry.”
