TWO private sector groups bidding for Perth’s new multi-purpose indoor entertainment stadium have named potential sites for the project.

In response to a call for expressions of interest earlier this year, Mirvac Fini/ Royal Agricultural Society and the Perth Arena Consortium (Multiplex Group, Spotless Group, Burswood International Resort Casino, Cox Group and Jacobsen Venue Management) have submitted stadium designs.

The Mirvac Fini/ RAS proposal is for construction within the Claremont Showgrounds, while the Perth Arena Consortium has named two sites, at the Entertainment Centre and at Burswood.

The State Government has committed $50 million towards the cost of the new stadium, which will be built under the State’s Public Private Partnership Policy.

The stadium is required to seat 12,000, have proximity to public transport, and to hold events including the Davis and Hopman cups, basketball, table tennis and netball championships.

The State Government wants the new stadium to be opera-tional by 2007. Proposals will be developed by a steering commi-ttee before being forwarded to the two groups in early 2005.
