THE Shire of Shark Bay this week started construction of a $7.5 million world heritage interpretive centre.
Shire CEO Mark Hook said a $4 million contract had been awarded to Crothers Construction, Geraldton, and a $1.7 million design contract to Freeman Ryan Design.
Woodhead International Architects has been instructed on the architecture brief.
“The facility will be an educational one focusing on world heritage issues,” Mr Hook said.
“It has been on the cards for 10 years and will be located on the main street in Denham.”
About $5 million of funding came from the State Government, and $1 million from the Federal Government, with the rest made up of shire and regional grants.
The centre is expected to be completed in December 2005.
