Canadian office giant Brookfield Office Properties has confirmed it will commence construction of a second tower at Brookfield Place, as reported exclusively by Business News late last month.

Brookfield said it had received commitments for 40 per cent of the 16-level tower, including tenants Deloitte, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, and construction arm Brookfield Multiplex.

Brookfield’s Australian commercial operations president Kurt Wilkinson said the second tower would complete a precinct that will total 120,000 square meters of office space as well as retail and hospitality outlets.

“We continue to attract quality tenants to Brookfield Place, and when combined with the world class building design, extensive amenities and links to the rest of the CBD, it is the most sought-after business address in the city,” Mr Wilkinson said.

Brookfield Place Tower 2 will have column-free floor plates of approximately 2,100 square meters, 110 parking spaces and is targeting a 5-Star NABERS base building energy rating.

The project will also incorporate a sheltered upper-level walkway across Mounts Bay Road to boost links between the Perth Bus Port, Esplanade Train Station and Perth's city centre.

Construction of the new office tower will be undertaken by Brookfield Multiplex and is expected to be completed late in 2015.
