The Perth City Council has approved plans for a commercial development that includes a microbrewery at Point Fraser and a sculpture park at Heirisson Island.

At a meeting last night, the Council approved an application from City Foreshore Investments Pty Ltd to develop three, single-storey buildings which would include a restaurant and microbrewery.

"The proposed developments will be low-key and low-rise and complement their surroundings," Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said.

"The development also includes boardwalks, a kiosk, public amenities and three smaller commercial tenancies which may have a tourism focus.

"Part of the southern building will be over the water, accommodating a restaurant, supper club and alfresco dining area.

"The microbrewery will be housed in the northern building which will also include a tavern and function room.

"The developers are also keen to provide a finger jetty and moorings, with the possibility of ferry access, although this is not part of the application approved by the Council.

"There is also the potential for a pedestrian bridge across to Heirisson Island, which is also a focus for Council development."

The Point Fraser development application is subject to approval by the Swan River Trust.

Meanwhile Heirisson Island will soon get a revamp in a bid to attract more people to the area.

A key element of the master plan is a sculpture park which would see sculptured landforms and specially commissioned artworks located at various parts of the island in a linked manner.

Ms Scaffidi said the plan identified a number of possibilities for the island, including a visitor centre, amphitheatre, barbecue area and indigenous cultural features.

The master plan proposed a staged development program and also examined private and government funding options.
