A private girls' school is proposing to build a new performing arts facility at its Attadale campus, including a 650-seat auditorium.

An application, with a $25 million price tag, to build a two-storey cultural centre at Santa Maria College on Stoneham Road has been lodged with the Metro Inner South Joint Development Panel.

The development application compiled by town planners Hatch RobertsDay, on behalf of the College, has also been submitted to the City of Melville for public consultation.

Santa Maria's proposed cultural centre comprises 650-seat auditorium, a black box theatre, a dance studio, staff offices, and learning areas across the ground, first and lower ground undercroft floors.

Hatch RobertsDay's report said the proposed arts facility would replace the existing theatre, which was undersized for storaged, outdated in technology, and had limited capacity for events and performances.

The school announced its plans for a new cultural centre last year, expecting the arts hub to be completed during Term 1 in 2025.

The proposed cultural centre is part of Santa Maria College's 10-15 year masterplan, with upgrades to its sporting facilities to be the next stage.

Next stages of the school's masterplan includes contemporary facilities for the Year 5-7 program, improvements in car parking and traffic, a centre for religious education and student services at the existing McAuley building, and a new design and innovation centre.

Christ Church Grammar School has also proposed an upgrade to its performing arts space along Queenslea Drive in Claremont, estimated to cost $29 million.

The Metro Inner-North Joint Development Assessment Panel approved the private boys' school application to build the four-storey arts hub at its meeting in late November.

CCGS' application includes demolition of a teaching block and other buildings to make way for the performing arts facility, which is expected to accommodate 480 patrons and includes an auditorium and four classrooms.
