THE relocation of the WA Symphony Orchestra to the Perth Concert Hall is just one part of a grand scheme to revitalise the city’s foreshore.
Plans for the foreshore redevelopment unveiled earlier this year stretch from the freeway to Langley Park and include a State Discovery Centre, Museum of Childhood and small-boats marina.
As part of the redevelopment the Perth Concert Hall would undergo extensive refurbishment and be extended to include purpose built WASO and theatre facilities.
A platform-boardwalk also will be constructed, running from the Concert Hall over the adjacent car park to the hall’s south and down to a riverside promenade.
Other ideas mooted for inclusion in the foreshore redevelopment are a chairlift from Kings Park to the river, a shell-shaped auditorium on the Esplanade, a tree-top pedestrian bridge linking the Convention Centre to Centenary Gardens and a water playground for families.
Ultimately, the City of Perth hopes to close the strip of Riverside Drive between William Street and Victoria Avenue.
The purpose here is to allow for the creation of waterfront promenade and provide greater public access to the river.
