Restaurant hoping to make a name for itself

THE legal battle over The City Hotel’s Il Bacaro is over, with Judy McEvoy opting to rename the venue VenVisto.

Following a trademark stoush with Melbourne restaurant Il Bacaro, Ms McEvoy has chosen a new name, which will hopefully shake the past few months’ legal woes and provide a fresh and positive outlook.

Joining the previous at VenVisto, which includes Marc Barton-Johnson and Marni Napier, is Paul Medica, who has worked for fine dining restaurants Altos and Star Ainse.

The catchy phrase VenVisto is Italian for “come visit”, and if Paul Medica’s modern Italian cuisine is as good as many people say it is, you won’t want to leave!

He’ll be treating patrons to his signature dishes, risotto specials and confit of duck, as well as preparing a host of other Italian treats from the VenVisto menu.

Paul and Marc have worked together before at Altos and are hoping to produce another success.

And from what City Hotel owner Judy McEvoy says, early response from patrons to VenViso has been encouraging.

She says that a visiting French VIP described the restaurant as “chicos”, which we’re told is the latest French expression for elegant and in vogue.

Be it French or Italian sayings, make sure you drop in to VenVisto – bon appetite!

Due to the popularity of Japanese cuisine and the increasing number of sushi outlets around town, Melvin Wee of JAS Sushi has begun promoting free sushi delivery to businesses located within a close proximity of the Wellington Street store.

Mr Wee says that, while the increase in Japanese outlets has been good for educating people about Japanese food, it has increased competition.

And in an effort to be more competitive, many stores have had to look to other areas to differentiate their product.

“We now offer not just sushi from our shop but supply other stores, and now we cater to offices and work functions and we’re now letting people know that we have free delivery to offices located near the store,” Mr Wee said.

The C Restaurant is also joining in with beer promotions with a master brewer lunch planned for tomorrow from 12pm onwards.

Dr Chuck Hahn, master brewer, malt shovel, will present 10 local, speciality, and international beers, and the C will present a five- course meal.

From Emu Bitter to Boddingtons, this lunch makes for a change and, as it’s an extended invite, there’s no need to head back to the office.

Jacques’ has opened on the Subi Hay Street restaurant strip. While the restaurant features commercial cuisine, from T-bone steaks to oysters kilpatrick, a French flavour can still be found in the French crepes – the perfect sweetener to an evening out.

Star Bistro’s popular cooking classes are back on the tables this spring. Bruce Chapman will provide you with the recipes and demonstration and you get to observe, learn, and eat! At a cost of $77 per person, Paul at the bistro says it’ll be yet another sell out. Full payment is required the Tuesday before the Sunday September 9 class.

Be quick.

Linda Mead’s LiNQ opens on Sunday September 2 and the play on words is Linda’s expression for the perfect link between fabulous food, wines, and décor, combined with that great South Perth esplanade view.

Well at least the sponsors are salvaging something from uneventful Round 19 western derby. Carlton & United Breweries has released the second derby commemorative beer can.

The first was produced after the round four clash earlier this year, and its success has prompted CUB to release a can for the latest derby.

The special print on the mid-strength can features the goal kickers and Ross Glendinning medal winner, Glen Jakovich.

More than two million cans are being produced and the Carlton Midstrength blocks will be available for about two weeks, or until stocks last.

Word from the Burswood is that they’re on time and discussing management options for the new eatery.

The new International Food Emporium is part of the resort’s $96 million dollar refurbishment.

We’re told the resort is looking at management options for the emporium, which includes Italian, Asian, seafood, fast food etc.
