Reg Howard-Smith appointed Waste Authority chairperson

Former Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA chief executive Reg Howard-Smith has been appointed chairperson of the Waste Authority for a three-year term.
Mr Howard-Smith had previously been with CME for 15 years and was its CEO between 2007 and 2018.
He will replace Marcus Geisler, who had served in the role since 2008.
Environment Minister Stephen Dawson said Mr Howard-Smith demonstrated strong leadership throughout his career and would play an important role in leading Western Australia’s approach to waste management.
Lee Broomhall has been appointed deputy chairperson, with Kelly Howlett, Tim Youé and Joshua Byrne also appointed for three-year terms.
“There was an extremely strong field of applicants, so I’m pleased to welcome the team of people who will help realise the McGowan government’s vision to reuse or recycle at least 75 per cent of waste generated in WA by 2030,” Mr Dawson said.
“I look forward to working with these five talented people, who bring a wide range of experience to this board - including shaping strategic direction and policy, urban sustainability, project and waste management, and exposure to the local government and planning sectors.”
