Primero wins Wheatstone contract

Engineering construction contractor Primero Group has won its first job at Chevron’s Wheatstone gas project, lifting its order book to $50 million.

The Wheatstone contract, valued at $2.5 million, is to build the domestic gas custody transfer meter station.

It includes the design, procurement, fabrication, construction and pre-commissioning of the meter station.

The station will connect a 200 terajoule per-day gas plant, via the Wheatstone Ashburton West Pipeline, to the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline.

In a statement, Primero said the contract would support 20 local jobs, six of which would be based at its head office in Osborne Park, while 14 would be based at fabrication facilities in Bibra Lake.

Managing director Cameron Henry said the company was in talks with local supplier Piv’s Engineering to fabricate and install specific components for the project.

“We’ll utilise innovative testing and commissioning methods to ensure the meter station is effectively assembled, tested and accepted then disassembled for the site installation,” he said.

Primero has previously worked on projects with clients including Rio Tinto, Fortescue Metals Group, BP and MidWest Vanadium.

“We have a strong pipeline of work leading into 2015 and will continue to offer our clients a high level of service and expertise,” Mr Henry said.
