Pressure mounts at airport estate

Privately owned Perth company Pressure Dynamics is aiming for rapid growth after completing a new facility at Perth Airport's industrial estate.

Its 5,000 square metre purpose built hydro technical facility, positioned on a 10,000sqm site, will provide hydraulic services to the booming oil and gas, marine and shipbuilding industries.

Pressure Dynamics commenced operations in April 1979 and as larger projects came its way, has built the platform for what is today a 60-strong team with 36 private shareholders.

Newly appointed general manager Jim Horton brings to the company experience from tenures at several international engineering firms before relocating to Perth from Queensland.

"My job was to take on the new building and set the growth plans in place. The objective is to double the revenue in two to three years," he said.

Mr Horton said that after being in Welshpool for 29 years, the business needed to move into a much larger facility to allow for growth.

"We are in a buoyant business environment, we've got the resources and the facilities now to execute our plans," he said.

Pressure Dynamics has made the transition from a small to medium sized enterprise, with revenue now exceeding $20 million a year.

"As a local privately owned hydraulic company, we believe we are the largest in the country," Mr Horton said.

Aside from the new premises, a foundation of Pressure Dynamics ambitious growth strategy is a recent distribution agreement with global engineering company Parker Hannifin Corporation.

"We've been appointed as a Parker Premier Distributor and we're the only one in the state with that status. It will be a whole new focus in sales and approach for us."

Following the signing, Parker vice president ASEAN/Australasia Myles Reilly said: "Parker sees the involvement of Pressure Dynamics in Parker's distribution program as a significant step forward in the WA marketplace and one that will bear fruit for both organisations."

The Perth Airport Estate covers over 700 hectares and has been divided into seven separate areas.

Both Jandakot and Perth Airport have emerged as sources of industrial land, in what is arguably Perth's tightest industrial market in decades.

Other companies located on the aiport estate include Western Power, SGS Australia, Schlumberger Oilfield, AGR Matthey, Officeworks, and Australia Post.

This week, construction company Southern Cross Rescom was awarded a $14 million contract to construct a purpose-built facility for Macmahon Holdings Ltd in the precinct.
