Palmtop software enhances use

A PERTH company has formulated software packages to enhance the performance of personal organisers.

Palm Solutions owner Steve Metlitzky said the packages were valuable time savers, proving to increase efficiency by up to 60 per cent for clients recording information while out of the office.

“We have developed software for a number of large mining companies so geologists can process data quickly while out in the field, including Hamersley Iron, Craton Mining and Robe River,” Mr Metlitzky said.

“Likewise, we have developed a package to enable real estate agents to make property inspections more efficiently and effectively using their palmtop.

“It also greatly reduces the paper chain, as all information is recorded on the palmtop and then downloaded directly onto the company’s main computer.

“The current view of many people is that palmtops are still just toys and organisers which incorporate handwriting recognition.

“However, they can be turned into powerful components of a mobile system,” he said.

Palm Solutions’ application frameworks are system libraries for palmtops, while the synchronisation engine provides integration with

corporate databases and legacy applications using a single click.

The company is currently engaged in a pilot project with TAFE colleges to develop an attendance and roll call system.

Palm Solutions is also developing software for asset tracking, stock-take and other barcode operations.
