Thursday, 28 July, 2016 - 14:54

Power generation company Pacific Energy has won an eight-year contract extension to continue providing services at St Barbara’s Gwalia gold mine in Leonora.

Perth-based Pacific will continue generating electricity at an existing 16-megawatt power station at Gwalia for St Barbara, with plans to undertake upgrade works to the plant targeting lower fuel consumption costs.

The value of the contract extension was not disclosed.

“This is an important contract for Pacific to secure,” Pacific managing director James Cullen said.

“We have been working with St Barbara since 2008 and have a good understanding of their operations and requirements.

“Working together we have identified where efficiency improvements can be realised and we look forward to getting the required work underway immediately.”

The new contract rolls over in August.

Pacific shares closed 15 per cent higher to 60 cents each.
