The Department of Education has awarded an almost $23 million contract to PS Structures to construct a new music building at John Curtin College of the Arts.

The Balcatta-based contractor, which has previously delivered numerous school projects, won the work from the state government last month, according to the contracts/tenders website.

The major project is expected to include state-of-the-art science and music learning areas, additional general classrooms and modern student services rooms.

It comes after TRCB Architects (formerly Taylor Robinson Chaney Broderick Architects) were named to lead the design of the facilities in 2021.

At the time it was tipped for completion during 2024.

The $22.9 million contract delivers on the McGowan Labor government’s 2021 election promise.

PS Structures has previously won $26 million worth of work on the redevelopment of Carine Senior High School and a $41 million contract on the Balcatta High School.

The contractor, led by managing director Royle Godwin, has also won work in the hospitality, commercial, industrial and health and aged care sectors.

Namely, it carried out work on Crown Perth’s pool refurbishment project, the Armadale Aquatic Centre and the Cockburn Central Police Station.
