Nimrod lapses

AFTER a quarter century in Western Australia’s computer hardware industry, local player Nimrod Computer Services has been placed in the hands of administrator.

Kim Holbrook of Holbrook and Associates was appointed administrator two weeks ago.

Mr Holbrook said the Belmont-based company appeared to have struggled to turn a profit for some time.

The financial failure comes despite Nimrod being a qualified SPIRIT supplier of computer equipment and services to the Department of Industry and Technology, and the WA Edu-cation Department

Proprietor Nimrod Thomas said the administration was voluntary. “I’m 69 years old, you can’t go on forever,” he said.

Mr Holbrook said he had not completed his examination of the business’s failure and there had been a number of collapses in the local computer hardware market this year.

“It is a competitive area and margins are shrinking, making it harder for companies like Nimrod to turn a profit,” he said.

“There is a lot of competition from overseas and while the quality and reliability of small companies like Nimrod is probably better, it is difficult to compete.”

Australian Securities and Investments Commission records show Nimrod’s ultimate holding company is Charcourt Pty Ltd, which is owned by Janice Thomas.

Mr Holbrook, who was also recently appointed as administrator to Mamma Maria’s Restaurant and Bar in Northbridge, said he was currently looking for prospective purchasers for Nimrod and had already advertised the computer business for sale.
