UNIVERSITY of Western Australia School of Architecture and Fine Arts head Geoffrey London has been appointed Government architect.

The role is designed to help the WA Government to deliver better State buildings and shape the design of major Government construction projects.

He is only the third government architect in Australia, the others being located in New South Wales and Queensland.

Professor London has held the professorial chair at UWA since 1992.

He was the first Faculty of Architecture Dean before being appointed head of school.

The professor is a past president of the WA Chapter of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and a past chair of the Committee of Heads of Architecture Schools of Australasia.

His research and writings have focused on aspects of 20th century architecture and he continues to be active as an editor, writer and conference presenter.
