POSITIONING the firm for an elevated profile, the board of local stockbroking and corporate services group DJ Carmichael & Co has voted in a new managing director, its second in a year.

Rod Beeton, who joined DJ Carmichael six weeks ago as head of equities dealing, re-places Denis Ryan, who came from Perpetual Trustees just last year.

Both Mr Ryan and DJ Carmichael chairman Anthony Barton described Mr Ryan’s departure as being on professional and amicable terms.

Mr Beeton concurred with his predecessor and chairman that Mr Ryan’s year at the 105-year-old firm had been one of transition for the company, adding: “the amount of opportunity in this industry at the moment is awesome”.

“Mr Ryan played a very important role in that year of transition,” Mr Barton said. “We are refocusing now on broking and we want to do that with a stockbroker.”

Mr Beeton said DJ Carmichael was well positioned to expand its profile, capitalise on emerging opportunities in portfolio management and broaden the firm’s revenue streams.

Mr Beeton left HP JDV as State manager, wealth management, after 10 years with the firm, the last four of which were in a management role.

Mr Ryan, who was previously general manager at Perpetual Trustees, said he was considering a number of interesting opportunities, all within WA.

DJ Carmichael’s board comprises Mr Barton, Mr Beeton, Sally Capp, Craig McGown and Derek Steinepreis.
