Perth-based resources specialist law practice Blakiston & Crabb has announced it will merge with national law firm Gilbert + Tobin.

The merged company will have more than 60 partners, with offices in Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Blakiston & Crabb managing partner Michael Blakiston said an alliance between the companies that had been in place over the past year was extremely successful, and a merger was a logical step.

"Our skills, expertise and styles complement each other and we are pleased to formalise our collaboration by becoming one firm," Mr Blakiston said.

"The addition of Gilbert + Tobin's expertise in corporate advisory, M&A and litigation will help round out the offering to our existing clients."

Gilbert + Tobin managing partner Danny Gilbert said the move would benefit both firms.

"Blakiston & Crabb bring with them specialised partners in the Energy and Resources sector, one of the main drivers of Australia's economic prosperity," Mr Gilbert said.

"It is one of Western Australia's leading firms which has been at the centre of that state's resources boom for more than 25 years.

"Together with G+T's existing partners we now have clients and projects that span Australia, Asia and the emerging market of Africa."
