NRW Holdings’ joint venture with indigenous group Eastern Guruma has won a $180 million deal at Rio Tinto’s Nammuldi iron ore operation in the Pilbara.

The contract covers bulk earthworks for the Nummuldi mine’s processing plant, waste fine storage facilities, stockyards, heavy vehicle haul roads, light vehicle roads, an explosive compound, mine services facilities and a rail link with train loading capabilities.

NRW said the project would last for approximately 37 weeks, with over 400 workers required.

Works will commence in May.

The contract award follows a series of significant deals NRW has won this financial year.

In September last year, NRW announced it had been awarded $133 million in works for Rio Tinto at the Cape Lambert Port in the Pilbara.

This was followed by a $90 million earthworks deal in October, also with Rio Tinto at the Yandicoogina iron ore mine.

Subsidiary Action Drill & Blast was awarded a three-year, $100 million supply contract with John Holland Group in Queensland in late October, while NRW also won a $32 million contract with Rio Tinto to upgrade access roads to the West Angeles iron ore mine in early November.

In February, Action Drill & Blast secured its largest ever contract, a $140 million works package at Fortescue Metals Group’s Cloudbreak iron ore mine near Newman.

NRW also announced earlier this month it had won a $67 million contract at Gina Rinehart’s Roy Hill iron ore operation, for earthworks, piping, and drill and blast operations.

At 11:00AM, WST, NRW shares were up 7.7 per cent, trading at $1.32.
