Murdoch University has been named for the first time in Times Higher Education’s top 100 universities under 50 years old rankings.

Murdoch debuted in the rankings at 57, while Curtin University was ranked 87.

In the previous year’s rankings, Curtin was rated the 75th best university under 50 years old worldwide, while Edith Cowan University scraped in at 100.

Murdoch University vice chancellor Richard Higgott said this year’s ranking confirmed the institution’s international standing.

“Today’s announcement together with our listing in the Top 400 of the Times Higher Education overall World University Rankings in 2012 confirms the dramatic reforms at the University over the last two years are paying dividends,” Professor Higgott said.

Rankings editor Phil Baty said Murdoch had joined a list of truly exciting and dynamic institutions.

“To feature in such a list against such tough global competition is a great achievement,” Mr Baty said.
