HAN’S Café has launched a new web site at www.hanscafe.com.au

The franchise was founded by Ian Han in January 1995, when the first restaurant opened in Murray Street, Perth.

There are now nine Han’s Cafes in Perth. The most recent launch was Han’s Café Carousel, which Mr Han describes as “a wonder of modern architecture and design”.

The 10th Han’s Café is planned to open later this year in the Reading Cinema Complex in Belmont as part of the Belmont Forum refurbishment.

The menu ranges from simple soups to complex banquets.

WA’s premier wine show has a new name.

The Mount Barker Wine Show is now known as the Qantas Wine Show of WA and for the first time this year will feature a new judging class, the AGWEST/JS Gladstone Trophy for wines displaying the most distinctive and best regional character.

The trophy is named after Dr J Gladstone who, while working for Agriculture WA, provided the wine industry with definitions of WA regions and their influences on wine character.

The show’s chairman Tony Riggall said WA had small vineyards that produced wines reflecting the “definition of terroire”.

“Many eastern states wines use different regions and meld these together to create a wine,” Mr Riggall said.

“WA wine is typically made from one region. The JS Gladstone award hopes to reflect this in judging a wine that best represents this principle of terroire.”

The wines must be 100 per cent grown and vintaged in WA and are judged to Australian Judging Standards.

National wine writer James Halliday will be chief judge.

Judging will be held on October 18 and 19, with a gala dinner and trophy presentation on the second day. Exhibitor tastings will be on October 20th, to be followed by the Great Southern Wine Producers Festival from October 21-22.

THE House of Blues Café in Northbridge offers one of the biggest homemade burgers in Perth.

The B.B. Blues Burger is a half-pound prime beef pattie chargrilled, topped with pepperjack cheese, bacon and sauteed mushrooms on a toasted focaccia bun, served with seasoned wedges.

Another dish to satisfy the fiercest of appetites is The Moo, Oink and Peep, which is a seasoned grilled chicken breast, bacon and mushrooms topped with melted Swiss cheese on a buttered croissant with honey mustard mayo.

And yes, it is as good as it sounds!
