THE MANSE Restaurant in Armadale has soups for $7, entrees $10.50, main courses $21.50 and desserts $7.

Menu highlights include blue cheese tagliatelle with crushed walnuts and sauteed mushrooms, chicken and herb terrine on a spicy plum sauce with dried muscatels and toasted herb lavash bread, creamy garlic prawns (a local favourite) and crumbed brie and orange salad with roasted pecans and a honey and dijon vinaigrette.

WHITEMAN’S Abroad Gallery Restaurant at 34 Johnson Street, Guildford, is a finalist in the Gold Plate Awards for its outstanding menu, broad selection of wines and attentive service.

Entrée highlights include sauteed chicken livers on grilled forest mushroom with crisp pancetta, fried onion rings and a balsamic jus, freshly shucked oysters cider battered and served with a warm apple and bacon slaw, and prawns and barbecued pork wrapped in spring roll pastry and served on bok choy.

Main course highlights include marinated lamb rump with a cassoulet of white beans and smoked bacon, free-range Mount Barker chicken wrapped in parma ham and served on baby vegetable and potato gnocchi, and kangaroo fillet served on Mrs Broad’s bubble and squeak with tempura zucchini and a tamarind palm sugar jus.

LA BELLA VASTO Italian Restaurant at 8 Outram Street, West Perth, is holding a three-course Melbourne Cup luncheon for $29.50 per person.

Diners can watch the race on a big screen, enjoy free entertainment and win prizes. Doors open at 11am.

La Bella Vasto’s Christmas menu is delectable. Choose from entrees including grilled Italian sausage served with sun-dried tomatoes, olives and Spanish onions, tortellini tossed in a cream and cheese sauce, and char-grilled field mushrooms served with rocket lettuce, shaved parmesan, balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil.

Main course options include lamb rack coated with herb and bread crust with port wine sauce, season turkey breast with ham baked potato and traditional gravy, and chicken involtini filled with spinach, ricotta and ham topped with a dijon cream sauce.

THE Red Herring’s Melbourne Cup event will feature Chandon and hors d’oeuvres overlooking the Swan River, followed by a three-course lunch.

The race will be shown on multi-viewing screens and there will be a range of competitions and sweepstakes.

Fashion from Empire Rose, C design, Pierucci, Jennifer Gaye Design and Lokho Design will be paraded by Vivien’s Models.

MEAD’S Mosman Bay will screen the Melbourne Cup on its new plasma screen TV. The restaurant is offering a two-course lunch for $32.95 including market specials, and a la carte is also available. There will be live music and, of course, sweepstakes.

The event begins at 10.30am with pre-lunch champagne before the big race at 11.15am.

THE QUEENS Hotel in Highgate will hold a Beer Feast on October 27 from 7pm as part of the Springfest handcrafted beer festival

Beers on the menu will include the Sail & Anchor’s traditional Oktoberbrau, a Marzen style lager based on a Munich festival brew, and the sweet tasting Beez Neez from Queensland. Sour Cherry and Cloudy Wheat Beer have also been created specifically for the two-month festival. A four-course meal will be matched to beers including Alpha Pale Ale, Iron Brew and Forbidden Fruit.

The appetiser will be boursin herb garlic cheese wontons and royal Tasmanian salmon gravalax, and the entrée will be harissa spiced grain-fed Mahogany Creek chicken on lemon almond cous cous with aioli whip. The main event will be poached royal Tasmanian salmon fillet on vegetable grill stack while the dessert will be Belgian chocolate mousse.

Boat Torque is offering new wine cruises featuring Houghton’s and Gloucester Ridge.

The double tasting involves an upstream Swan River cruise with commentary plus wines and cheeses en route to Houghton’s vineyard followed by a buffet luncheon at Mulberry Farm riverside function centre. The journey is topped off with a wine show and tasting courtesy of Gloucester Ridge Winery.

Boat Torque offers another cruise culminating in wine tasting at Sandalford Vineyard followed by a buffet lunch at Mulberry Farm with live entertainment.

The cost is $99 per person and the cruises last from 9.45am until 4.45pm.
