IN A bid to expand the number of people participating in Walk to Work Day on November 3, the Heart Foundation has invited mayors across Perth to set an example by walking to work.
It didn’t take too much to sign up City of Subiaco Mayor Tony Costa, who said that he already walked to work.
“I have been walking to work for the greater part of my working life,” Mr Costa said.
He said modern technology contributed to a lack of exercise.
“Comfort zones are easier,” he said.
City of Melville Mayor Katie Mair said she spent an hour a day working out.
“I either walk or I go to the gym or I swim and I also do some martial arts … karate.,” she said.
“I’m determined to hang around and if I am here for a long time I want to make sure I’m in good health.”
Vincent Mayor John Hyde obviously appreciates walking. On top of agreeing to the Heart Foundation’s walk, he is organising a Mayoral Community Walk to celebrate Active Australia Day on October 29.
