Major Stadia Project working party begins: Kobelke

Moves towards the construction of a 60,000-seat multi-purpose stadium have progressed further with the commencement of discussions between State Government officials and the Western Australian Football Commission, according to Sport Minister John Kobelke.

The meetings between the Commission and government Major Stadia Project working party will seek to ensure football will be better off in the move from Subiaco Oval to either East Perth or Kitchener Park.

The working party, lead by Alastair Bryant, also includes Department of Sport and Recreation director general Ron Alexander and State Solicitor Tim Sharp.

The next meeting of the working party will be held in three weeks.

Sport and Recreation Minister John Kobelke said discussions between Government officials and the WA Football Commission over Perth's planned major stadium had begun.

"The initial meeting of the stadia working group was conducted in good spirit," Mr Kobelke said.

"All parties are committed to working towards the common goal of a new multi-purpose stadium for Perth that serves the interests of football, the other sporting codes and the community.

"There was an understanding that while there are significant issues to be worked through, good opportunities exist to develop a solution to ensure the best outcome for all parties."

The next meeting of the working party will be held in three weeks.
