Labor MP Alannah MacTiernan will stand down from the party's shadow cabinet on Friday to prepare for the next federal election.
Ms MacTiernan said now the summer recess was over it was an appropriate time for policy responsibilities to be taken forward by those who will be contesting the next state election.
"In my remaining six months in State Parliament I will continue to work hard for the people of Armadale and will continue in my role as chair of the Community Development and Justice Committee," she said.
Ms MacTiernan was the state shadow minister for regional development, strategic infrastructure and climate change.
She will contest the federal seat of Canning at the next federal election.
