The $30.6 million, seven-storey Lime Street development has won a major prize from the Urban Development Institute of Australia, taking home the President’s Award on Saturday night.

The East Perth project led a big range of winners in Western Australia’s 2013 UDIA Awards for Excellence, including Karratha’s first modern high-rise development Pelago West by Finbar.

The Lime Street Project, run by St Bartholomew’s House, provides 148 beds for a wide range of clients including people on the Department of Housing’s wait list, those in crisis, homeless men and seniors. The development is made up of 54 one-bedroom residential units, 12 one-bedroom crisis units, 42 transitional housing beds and a 40-bed aged care facility.

“This year saw some of the greatest diversity yet in the awards,” said UDIA WA CEO Debra Goostrey who added that developers were raising the bar on sustainability, amenity and affordability.
