Catholic Education Western Australia executive director Debra Sayce will step down from her role to head a section in the Archdiocese of Perth.

The Bishops of Western Australia today announced Dr Sayce will be the inaugural head of mission enhancement and outreach – Archdiocese Agencies, having been appointed by Archbishop of Perth Tim Costelloe.

She will step down as CEWA executive director on December 31 and start her new role in January next year.

Dr Sayce was appointed CEWA director of religious education in 2007 and became the interim executive director in 2017.

In 2018, Dr Sayce was confirmed in the executive director role.

The Bishops of Western Australia also announced CEWA deputy executive director Wayne Bull will replace Dr Sayce until the end of 2024.

Catholic Commission of Western Australia chair Eva Skira said Dr Sayce has led CEWA with distinction.

“Her commitment to mission and the gospel values was always reflected in her leadership and decision making such that Catholic education has grown and flourished during her time,” she said.

Dr Sayce will be greatly missed in Catholic education in Western Australia and I wish her well in her new important role.”
