Kierath chases options

PLANNING Minister Graham Kierath and a seven-member

delegation have recently been on a four-day trip to Sydney and Newcastle to look at what redevelopment authorities are accomplishing there.

The Minister said the delegation included Member for Swan June van de Klashorst, Member for Midland Michelle Roberts and the Member for the East Metropolitan region Derrick Tomlinson.

Swan Shire president Charlie Gregorini also attended along with a Ministry of Planning representative and Mr Kierath’s personal adviser.

Mr Gregorini said the trip, which included a visit to the Eveleigh Railway Workshops and Australian Technology Park in central Sydney, was beneficial as it showed what could be accomplished in similar situations to that of Midland.

He said redevelopment authorities were commonplace throughout Australia as they were recognised as effective where government land needed to be redeveloped.

The Honeysuckle harbour redevelopment in Newcastle was also investigated.

Mr Gregorini said the aim of the trip was to simply look at the possibilities for Midland and at no time was the issue raised about adopting similar practices in other areas of metropolitan Perth and regional WA.
