Kalaf to chair Art Gallery board

Management consultant, Fiona Kalaf has been appointed the the new chairperson for the board of the Art Gallery of WA and treasury official Brian Roche has also been appointed to the board.

Arts Minister John Day said Ms Kalaf has held the position of deputy chair for the past three years.

Mr Roche, executive director Shared Services at the Department of Treasury and Finance, has been appointed to the board for a period of four years.

She replaces Helen Cook who had been the chairperson for the past four years and chose not to be renominated for the position.

"Ms Kalaf has been an Art Gallery board member since 2003 and has held senior executive positions at HBF, the Commonwealth Bank and Wesfarmers," said Mr Day.

"At Wesfarmers, Ms Kalaf developed the award-winning Wesfarmers Arts sponsorships program, and managed the company's renowned art collection."

Ms Kalaf said she looked forward to her new role.

"It is an exciting time for the Art Gallery with the Perth Cultural Centre redevelopment under way and the 'Peggy Guggenheim: A Collection in Venice' exhibition opening on October 9 as part of the 'Great Collections of the World' series," Ms Kalaf said.
