Global technology company Insight has secured a $23 million contract with the state government to build a new environmental assessment platform over the next three years.

The platform, led by the state’s Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, is designed to provide a one-stop shop for environmental assessment and approvals for industry and developers.

The Environment Online platform, which has been touted as a ‘gamechanger’ for industry, is expected to reduce the federal and state government environmental assessment timeframe by around a year.

The platform will complement the newly-established Biodiversity Information Office, an online database accessible to industry to aid in decision making, reduce duplication and cost, and produce better assessment standards.

The announcement comes just months after the state government announced it would spend $120 million and recruit more than 150 additional officers across five of its agencies in a bid to streamline project assessments and approvals.

In a statement released this morning, Environment Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said the platform would give businesses greater certainty when making applications while ensuring the state’s environmental values were more easily identified and protected.

Insight has 120 WA-based staff and provides IT services and solutions to government departments, including the Department of Communities, and commercial organisations.

The company, formerly known as Ignia, was acquired by US-based Insight Enterprises in 2016 for $10.8 million.
