Infinity sampling scores multiple elements at key Pilbara operation
Infinity Mining has identified a host of valuable minerals from reconnaissance rock chip sampling at its Hillside project in the Pilbara including anomalous results for copper, molybdenum, gold and silver.
Samples returned values of up to 4539 parts-per-million copper, 1198ppm molybdenum, 0.68 grams per tonne gold and 14 g/t silver. The exploration program also identified a partially covered copper-stained quartz vein in granite on the western side of the operation over around 170m.
Infinity says a soil sample grid over the vein returned patchy anomalous to weakly anomalous copper, gold, silver and molybdenum although the test sample was dominated by transport material.
A second smaller outcrop of malachite-stained sheared quartz was highlighted about 80m west of the first vein. However, the transported cover is thicker further out from the greenstone and orientation and extent of the vein could not be determined. A total of 11 samples were taken across both quartz discoveries with four assays returning results above 0.25 per cent copper.
Infinity conducted a follow-up soil sampling survey over the area prior to receiving rock chip assay results to test for further concealed copper mineralisation. A total of 157 soil samples were collected on 20m x 20m grid around the exposed quartz vein and sent for gold and low-level multi-element analysis. Initial results show anomalous and elevated copper east of the quartz vein towards the greenstone outcrop.
Infinity Mining Chief Executive Officer, Joe Groot said: “This is a new Cu prospect within our Hillside Project and the Company is excited. As we are yet to fully understand the style of mineralisation in this area, especially given the high Mo and Ag values, we are planning to go back early in the 2023 field season to quickly determine its potential.”
Hillside sits within the Coongan Greenstone Belt between the Shaw Batholith to the west and Corunna Downs Batholith to the east. The explorer believes Hillside has the potential to host copper-rich volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits similar to the nearby Sulphur Springs and Kangaroo Caves deposits.
Historical exploration at Hillside has been conducted by several companies including Alcoa in 1980 and Great Southern Mining in 1984. Great Southern conducted a rock chip sample program that returned 20 results with more than 1000 ppm copper with one sample reaching 7800 ppm or 7.8 per cent copper. In 2019 FE Limited, as part of a joint venture at the time with Infinity, completed a 36-hole scout program that returned anomalous copper results.
Earlier this week Infinity was granted a five-year exploration licence extension for one of the key tenements that forms part of Hillside. The licence continuation is the fourth extension the company has secured across its Pilbara holdings in the past month and includes tenements at the company’s Panorama, Tambourah South in addition to another Hillside site.
