Hull reveals tavern plans at One Subiaco

Blackburne has announced former Little Creatures general manager Miles Hull will establish a tavern at the bottom of its One Subiaco apartment block.

Mr Hull, who was recently involved in the establishment of The Alex Hotel and is the owner of The Quarter Acre Hotel in Applecross, has secured the largest retail space in the development, on the corner of Rokeby and Roberts roads on the ground floor.

He said the site lent itself to a European bistro-style tavern.

“It’s a contemporary venue that has large alfresco viewing out on to a high-volume pedestrian area that’s across the road from a train station,” Mr Hull told Business News.

The 200-capacity venue will be open from 7am until late every day of the week, and cater to locals, shoppers and those working nearby.

“We are looking to provide a contemporary, all-day dining tavern, where you can come in, have a morning meeting over coffee or brekkie, have a business lunch, catch up with some friends and then in the afternoon, a drink after work or a bite to eat with family,” Mr Hull said.

He said he was inspired by Subiaco’s vibrant hospitality history, including the Oriel Café, which offered high-end food 24 hours a day.

Mr Hull said although Subiaco’s retail hospitality and retail precinct had been struggling in recent years, especially since the AFL moved from Subiaco Oval, the area was undergoing revitalisation.

“I think this will be a catalyst for it, this redevelopment, with the apartments and the other retail they are going to provide,” he said.

The $250 million One Subiaco project will provide housing for around 500 new residents and offer a range of cafes, restaurants, convenience retail and pop-up stalls.

After securing Mr Hull as the tenant in the corner space, Blackburne is now beginning to lease its other 14 retail outlets ahead of the precinct's opening in 2022.

Meanwhile, the nearby Subiaco Hotel announced last week it would reopen in late November after undergoing renovations.
