Hill takes top architect award

PERTH born and raised architect Kerry Hill has won the prestigious 2006 Royal Australian Architects Gold Medal. The award is the architectural profession’s highest accolade. It is the first time in its 46-year history the prize has gone offshore as the multi-award winning Mr Hill is now permanently based in Singapore. The award recognises distinguished service by architects who have designed or executed buildings of high merit or who have produced works of distinction resulting in the advancement of architecture. Since graduating from the University of Western Australia in 1968, Mr Hill has distin-guished himself as an architect of exceptional sensibility and expertise. He has taken a more progressive and regionally sensitive approach to the design and construction of buildings across the Asia-Pacific region. The RAIA jury noted his commercial, residential and resort designs were typified by their distinctive elegance and sensibility to their locale and climate. They were designed with a ‘sense of belonging’ which was appropriate to the client, culture and country. Mr Hill is currently working on several new projects in Australia including the WA performing arts centre and the master plan for the University of NSW Asia campus at Changi in Singapore.
