ONE of East Perth’s highest points could soon be graced by a twenty storey building.
The East Perth Redevelopment Authority wants to amend its scheme to allow the erection of a building up to seventy metres high on the Main Roads WA site on the corner of Waterloo Crescent and Plain Street.
The Main Roads building is ten storeys, or about forty metres, high.
A staff note to council said, if the Main Roads site was redeveloped, it would be for principally residential uses.
Councillor Laurance Goodman said there was nothing untoward with the EPRA’s request.
“We already have a fifteen storey building in the area – Goderich Towers,” Mr Goodman said.
Another staff note to council said that, if the Main Roads site was developed to a height of seventy metres and land along Adelaide Terrace was redeveloped to 100 metres, then it was unlikely any building on the Main Roads site would be visually prominent when viewed from the major vantage points of the city.
Developing the Main Roads site to a height of seventy metres could also be a boon for residents living there as it would give excellent views of events at the WACA Ground.
