Sticking to a rural theme, all might not be well with Margaret River’s biggest (and ugliest) project, the concrete mausoleum known as the Palandri winery.
Briefcase has heard whispers of dissent at the upper levels of Palandri management.
The pressure seems to come from a desire to sort out the ownership structure ahead of a public float later this year – a mechanism to raise extra funds and also a means by which Janet Holmes à Court’s one-time friend, Darrel Jarvis, can make his entry into the public domain.
Darrell is very keen to show the world that he can run a vineyard better than Janet’s best asset, the simply splendid Vasse Felix winery.
Meanwhile, another winery development with a touch of the old Holmes à Court firm is taking shape.
Perth lawyer and one-time Bell Group executive, Cedric William-son, is behind the proposed Settlement 22 vineyard and winery.
On paper, Cedric’s proposal looks seriously interesting with a superb winery building and a novel twist.
He has recruited former Howard Park wine maker, John Wade, to produce the wine for Settlement 22 (named after a returned soldiers’ group settlement) – and John is already making wine for the company to cultivate interest.
