Roleystone woman Hayley Goad has been selected by the Cattle Council of Australia as WA Beef Industry Rising Champion, and will head to Canberra for the NAB Agribusiness Beef Industry Rising Champions Initiative national final.

The three-day program begins today, with seven finalists from around Australia meeting industry leaders, participating in personal development activities and policy subcommittees, and attending networking events.

Ms Goad, who manages the Muchea saleyards, is a meat councillor and the first female livestock auctioneer in WA.

“I’m looking forward to the whole Rising Champions experience, from being able to meet Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce and shadow Agriculture Minister Joel Fitzgibbon, to meeting everyone involved in the initiative,” Ms Goad said.

“It has been a great experience sitting on the (WAFarmers Meat Council) and seeing how policy is made behind the scenes.

“The experience has made me want to explore other avenues of involvement in the agriculture industry.”

The winner will be announced this Wednesday, with WA looking to score its third victory in a row.
