Spinifex Brewing Co received unanimous approval to build a 400-capacity hospitality venue at Cable Beach at a Shire of Broome council meeting last night.

The alehouse is part of a broader Cable Beach foreshore redevelopment to activate the area.

Plans for the alehouse include a large playground, large lawn areas, a Gubinge forest and an outdoor LED screen and stage.

According to plans submitted to the Shire of Broome, construction is estimated to cost about $4.9 million.

The brewer has engaged Flying Foam to commission a 600-litre brewery, which will brew only low and mid-strength beers for on-site consumption.

Spinifex Brewing Co chief executive Adam Barnard said the facility was built for Broome locals and would provide a family-friendly environment.

“We are absolutely committed to a locals-first policy, so every trade and service, our menu and our partners are Kimberley businesses wherever possible,” Mr Barnard said.

“I am also excited about the potential tourism benefits a project of this scale will bring and how it will complement the proposed Cable Beach redevelopment plans.”

Construction is expected to begin late October, with the facility expected to open in late 2023.

Spinifex Brewing Co, launched in 2019, is a majority Aboriginal-owned business and has created a beer, the F88 Lager, to benefit veteran-related charities.

In May, the brewer signed on as a tenant in the Shire of Murray’s food innovation precinct in Peel.
