Ramsay Health Care’s proposed $77 million revamp of the private hospital at Joondalup Health Campus has been approved by planning authorities.

The Metro Outer Joint Development Assessment Panel has given unanimous sign-off for the private healthcare provider’s overhaul of the Shenton Avenue hospital, which includes adding a seven-storey building to the existing development.

The expansion, including a day surgery ward, will provide an additional 80 beds to the private hospital.

The proposal, submitted to the JDAP in February, includes the removal of 260 car bays to make way for the development.

However, 98 bays are set to be reintroduced as part of the proposal, which would result in a net reduction of 162 parking bays on site.

City of Joondalup representatives at today’s JDAP indicated that the hospital would still have more than 2,000 car bays, which was considered adequate for the development.

Concerns about traffic congestion were allayed, with an independent traffic report saying the current road network is capable of accommodating the increased traffic.

The proposed expansion, designed by Silver Thomas Hanley, also includes treatment of the façade to include compressed fibre cement cladding, aluminum window frames, glazing and colourbond roofing.

A $256.7 million expansion of the public component of the hospital is also ongoing, to which the federal government has contributed $158 million.
