Gumala Aboriginal Corporation has received a grant of more than $4,800 for its community waste project called From Food Scraps to Fertiliser.

The latest grant is part of round one of the state government’s Community Grants Scheme for 2013.

Earlier this year, the Indigenous Land Corporation awarded Gumala nearly $80,000 for the construction of the Youngaleena Community Centre in Youngaleena, a remote Indigenous community about 195 kilometres from Tom Price.

The waste project forms part of the construction of the centre.

The community centre will also offer dental services, paediatric support and will be available for use by cultural gatherings.

Gumala has also received a grant of $78,000 from Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations for its early childhood education centres at Youngaleena and Paraburdoo.

Gumala services and supports the Banyjima, Innawonga and Nyiyaparli people of the Pilbara region in the areas of health, education and employment.
