Government land disposal gears up

LandCorp’s renewed focus on disposing of surplus government land assets is taking shape at several new sites.

Work is progressing rapidly on the former Mt Henry Hospital site which has been given a new lease of life with the development of 140 lots — a large number having views across the Canning River to Mt Pleasant.

Single residential tiered blocks range in size from 410 square metres to 700sqm. Prices are expected to start from about $150,000 and range to more than $200,000.

The first release is anticipated to be sold at auction in August 1999.

A highlight of the estate’s design is 8,000sqm of preserved bushland and a recreation park and playground.

Renewal of the old hospital site includes construction of a 60-bed privately built nursing home owned by the Anglican Church.

Another LandCorp development is progressing in Churchlands where four hectares are being developed as a residential subdivision of 55 single residential lots.

LandCorp plans to spend about $400,000, subject to approval from the City of Stirling, to transform three hectares of degraded bushland into a haven with indigenous plants, landscaped lawns and community facilities such as picnic shelters and dual use footpaths on the site.

Blocks on the new development, to be known as Abbey Brook Estate, will range in size from 450sqm to 780sqm, with the first 15 lots to be auctioned in May.

Demolition is also underway to make way for a new subdivision of 24 lots for private sale at Cypress Hill estate in North Fremantle. LandCorp received approval for its revised plan to develop the site after consultation with the local community.
