Georgiou Group has signed a new joint venture with indigenous contractor Nyiyaparli Engineering and Mine Maintenance Services WPH, to chase resources sector jobs primarily in the Pilbara.

Georgiou executive general manager John Galvin said the vision of the joint venture, which will be known as Mindra Minjah, was to create long-lasting employment opportunities for Aboriginal people on their traditional homelands.

“This is directly aligned to Georgiou’s vision to address the disadvantage and inequity experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the way we do business and initiatives such as employment and training opportunities,” Mr Galvin said.

“I firmly believe this partnership is the beginning of a sustainable, solid partnership and an important step to help an indigenous business build a more sustainable future.”

Mr Galvin said NEMMS had a strong record of delivering mining, civil and mine rehabilitation projects in the Pilbara, taking a culturally sensitive approach to the works.

NEWMMS WPH director Bruce Bung said the group aimed to set an example for indigenous people.

“Set some targets, work hard towards achieving them and have them believe in their own ability to better their lives and those of future generations,” Mr Bung said.
