Georgiou Group has added a $70 million luxury apartments project to its growing portfolio of residential projects, with construction set to begin soon on a three-storey development on Dalkeith’s Waratah Avenue.

The project, by Westland Developments, has been designed by McDonald Jones Architects and will comprise seven shops at ground level and 32-apartments over three storeys.

Demolition works on the site, which is adjacent to the Waratah Avenue retail strip, have begun, while construction is expected to be completed by May 2016.

Georgiou Building general manager Frank Dilizia said the company had worked closely with Westland for the past two years, including collaboration on design and documentation, as well as value management.

“Dalkeith on Waratah will set a new standard in apartment living in the heart of the western suburbs,” Mr Dilizia said.

“Once complete, this project will again highlight Georgiou Group’s capability in delivering high-quality apartment projects.”

Also in the apartments sector, the owner of East Perth’s Banjo’s Backpackers is set to receive approval to build a nine-storey mixed-use project, comprising 116 apartments and six shops, at the Claisebrook Road site.

The $25 million proposal, put forward by McDonald Jones Architects on behalf of landowner Baracus Pty Ltd, will be approved by the Metropolitan West development assessment panel when it meets on Thursday.

The existing hostel will be demolished to allow for two nine-storey buildings, with 59 of the apartments to be single-bedroom, and the remainder to have two bedrooms.
