National law firm Gilbert + Tobin has expanded its banking and finance practice by acquiring boutique West Perth firm Wright Legal.

The integration will take effect from April 1 2024.

Wright Legal is led by directors Trish Chapman and Dom McGreal, who have agreed to join G+T as partners.

Offers have been extended to the rest of the five-person team at Wright Legal, including fellow directors Claire Rowe and Luke McShane.

Their addition will bolster G+T, which is ranked as Western Australia’s 22nd largest law firm, according to Data & Insights.

G+T currently has 10 partners and 35 legal professionals.

Recent additions to its team include energy and resources partners George Varma, who joined last year from Pinsent Masons, and Claire Pope, from PwC Australia.

The firm’s founder and chairman, Danny Gilbert, said he was delighted Ms Chapman and Mr McGreal had agreed to join Gilbert + Tobin.

“Our partner numbers in WA have increased by over sixty per cent in the last three years, a sign of our commitment to this important and rapidly growing market,” he said.

Ms Chapman said the combination with G+T would provide Wright Legal clients with continuity along with access to a broader range of expertise.

“Having worked alongside Gilbert + Tobin on many deals in WA, we found we share a similar approach to legal practice: we deliver innovative, solutions-focused and value for money advice and place our clients at the absolute centre of everything we do," she said.

Wright Legal was founded in 2001 by former Freehills partner Paul Wright.
