Fleetwood to work on Qld quarantine facility

Wednesday, 17 November, 2021 - 15:30

Fleetwood has won a $36 million subcontract from Multiplex Constructions to help build a quarantine hub in Brisbane.

The project forms part of a larger agreement between Perth-founded Multiplex and the federal government involving the construction of quarantine facilities in Western Australia, Queensland and Victoria.

Multiplex has selected Fleetwood to help build the Centre for National Resilience at the Damascus Barracks in Pinkenba, Brisbane, seven weeks after subcontracting the business for the Melbourne facility. That contract was worth $32 million.

All the quarantine centres will be operated by the commonwealth and owned by individual state governments throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, with the first 500 beds in each centre expected to be ready before March.

“We are delighted to be playing a key role in the Australian government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and more broadly Australia’s road to recovery,” Fleetwood chief executive Bruce Nicholson said of the latest contract.

“This contract award demonstrates our unique ability to leverage our national footprint, having used the lessons learned from the recently awarded major contract for part of the Centre for National Resilience Melbourne.”

The Victorian centre will be located in Mickleham and the WA centre in Bullsbrook. Multiplex has not yet awarded a subcontract for the Bullsbrook facility.

Fleetwood’s shares closed up 0.4 per cent this afternoon to trade at $2.28.
